Portfolio: Quality Assurance
Cyclical review of programs and academic support units
In spring of 2023, quality assurance procedures and facilitation were added to my role. Since then, I have worked to improve the clarity and timing of quality assurance processes as well as increase the relevance of the findings for strategic direction of programs/units.
Highlights
Curriculum Renewal
Created action plans based on previously completed self-studies and external reviews for Bachelor of Arts - Art History, Master of Arts - Art Education, Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Design, Master of Design programs. Facilitated year-long curriculum renewal activities aligned with action plans.
Self-Studies
Produced new timelines for the internal review of academic programs as post-pandemic conditions meant there was a substantial delay in the completion of the reviews. Adjusted expectations of the self-studies by developing a strategy for more continuous review of programs rather than reviews conducted at long-term intervals.
Policy & Process
Reviewed and re-wrote institutional quality assurance policy, taking it from a policy with sparse guidance to a user-driven framework incorporating policy, steps for actions, timelines, and templates in order to make the process more comprehensible and doable. Emphasis placed on future planning.
MPHEC Collaboration
Worked with the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission to ensure internal quality assurance processes met external expectations. Participated in the MPHEC’s QA Community of Practice alongside other maritime public post-secondary institutions.
Collaborative Facilitation
Set up a process wherein all full-time faculty were equal participants in quality assurance processes without needing to administer the processes. Facilitated through differences of opinion, communication breakdowns, epistemological differences, among other barriers to produce best possible results.
Project Management
Formulated appropriate project management strategies to ensure timely completion of QA projects. Without program coordinators, the administration of these projects required project platforms and easy-to-use file set ups so that faculty and students could submit feedback efficiently and so that that feedback could be smoothly turned into reporting.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
